The Art of Composting

Composting is also widely used to recycle organic material at home – or perhaps in your school or office. Like worm farming, composting helps reduce leachate in the landfill and lowers the production of greenhouse gases. Decomposing fruit and vegetable matter, garden and lawn clippings are just some of the sources that create nutrient-rich soil-like compost for your garden.

Our composting workshop covers the following topics:

  • Why compost?
  • Why is it important to recycle food scraps and garden waste at home?
  • How to set up your own compost bin
  • What goes into your compost?
  • Different methods of composting
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting your compost
  • How to use compost on your garden
  • The vital role of organic matter and humus in your soil
  • The real difference between organic and non-organic food
  • Outline of the human health problems associated with using synthetic fertilisers on your edible gardens
